Free Car Seat Inspections Offered by LAPD

Parents can have their children's car seats checked out by professionals on Tuesday at the Valley Plaza Sports Complex.

Free childrens' car seat inspections are being offered Tuesday at the Valley Plaza Park and Recreation Center as part of National Child Passenger Safety Week.

From 7-11 a.m., child safety seat technicians with the Los Angeles Police Department's Valley Traffic Division are offering free checks for car seat defects and recalls, a press release from the LAPD read.

Car crashes are the leading cause of death for children from 1 to 12 years of age, according to the Center for Disease Control National Center for Health Statistics.

In addition, three out four children are not as secure in the car as they should
be because their seats are not being used correctly, According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The free service is being offered at the corner of Sherman Way and Whitsett Avenue.
