Intense Jewelry Heist in Valley Village Caught on Tape

A family-owned business in Valley Village is trying to recover after hammer-wielding thieves robbed the store on Halloween.

The ordeal lasted only two minutes, but it cost the Kalajian family about $1 million.

Newly released surveillance video from inside the family-owned Valley Discount Jewelers in Valley Village depicts an intense smash-and-grab and assault on store employees last week, ABC7 reports.

It was around 1 p.m. on Halloween when a woman walked in the store and asked a question about earrings. But she would soon become an accomplice as she held the door open for three men who stormed in wearing masks and carrying hammers.

The footage shows two of them smashing jewelry cases and grabbing whatever they could, while the third suspect roughed up the matriarch of the family by dragging her across the floor.

"The whole time he was telling my mother not to move or he'll kill her," her Tommy Kalajian, told ABC7.
