False Alarm: Man Hitching Ride in a Trunk Sparks Kidnapping Tip

What began as a kidnapping investigation ended being a case of someone who really wanted to get somewhere despite a lack of seats.

A kidnapping sighting Thursday in North Hollywood actually turned out to be a person who voluntarily got in the trunk of a car because there was no more room to sit, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

A citizen phoned police when someone was spotted hopping into the trunk of a vehicle occupied by six people near Vineland Avenue and Kittridge Street around 1 p.m., said Lt. Bryan Lium.

When officers arrived and conducted an investigation, they ruled no kidnapping had taken place.
