LAPD: Drunk Mom Flips Car With 4-Year-Old Inside

Woman arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after allegedly trying to flee accident scene without her son, according to report.

A 35-year-old woman remained behind bars today on suspicion of drunken driving and child endangerment after crashing her car in North Hollywood and running away, leaving her 4-year-old child at the scene while her two other very young children were home alone, police said.

Lisette Gonzalez Avakian was discovered hiding behind some bushes near the scene of the crash and arrested by officers, according to police.

The crash occurred in the 5900 block of Whitnall Highway around 2 a.m. Wednesday, said Richard French, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman.

During the ensuing field investigation, officers found a number of possible addresses for Avakian as they inspected her vehicle, according to police. At one location, officers discovered a year-old infant and a 3 month-old baby, said Officer A. Pedemonte of the LAPD's North Hollywood Station. All three children were taken into protective custody and placed with the L.A. County Department of Child and Family Services, police said. They were later turned over to their father.

Even though Avakian's car overturned, there were no serious injuries in the crash, according to police.

She was booked at the Van Nuys jail and remained behind bars this morning in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Anyone with information about the crash or the suspect was urged to call LAPD's Valley Traffic Division Det. Bustos at (818) 644-8021 or Officer Fuentes at (818) 644-8022. Tips can be made anonymously.

The headline says the car flipped, but there was no mention of that in the story. Are you sure you have that right?

The story has just been updated and yes, it flipped.
