Authorities Thursday identified a man who was fatally struck by a vehicle as he crossed a street in North Hollywood.
The man was crossing Whitsett Avenue near Kittridge Street when he was hit by a southbound SUV about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to Sgt. Randy Modrell of the Los Angeles Police Department's Valley Traffic Division.
Leo Loponen, 52, of North Hollywood died at the scene, coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter said.
The SUV driver, a woman in her 20s, stopped and cooperated with police, Modrell said. She was not cited, pending completion of the crash investigation, Modrell said.
