A 40-year-old man suspected of killing his 76-year-old mother and dumping her body in a nearby alley was arrested Monday by the Burbank Police Department.
Police were called to the south alley in the 4000 block of Victory Boulevard, between Hollywood Way and the western city limit, at 10:44 a.m., said Sgt. Darin Ryburn of the Burbank Police Department.
The woman's body was wrapped in some sort of material and dumped into a trash bin, Ryburn said.
The cause of her death will have to be determined by the coroner's office, Ryburn said. Her name was not announced because next of kin are still being notified.
The woman's son, Moises Diaz, 40, was arrested on suspicion of killing her. His bail was set at $1 million.
Diaz lived with his mother near where her body was found.
Anyone who was near the alley between 6 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. today was asked to call Burbank police detectives at (818) 238-3210.
The first murder was Burbank's first of the year, Ryburn said.
