Man Killed in Sun Valley Freeway Crash

A young man dies when his car veers off the highway.

A man was killed Wednesday when an SUV in which he was riding crashed on the Golden State (5) Freeway in Sun Valley, authorities said.

The crash was reported just after 1 a.m. on the southbound side of the freeway just south of Hollywood Way, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Saxon Matsuki, 21, of Los Angeles died at the scene, said coroner's Chief Craig Harvey. Matsuki was a passenger in the vehicle, Harvey said.

The circumstances of the single-vehicle crash were under investigation. The driver of the 2003 Ford Explorer suffered minor injuries, and a second passenger suffered moderate injuries, the CHP reported. Two of five southbound lanes of the freeway were closed for about an hour while crews worked to clear the scene.
