Authorities Friday released the name of a man who was shot and killed during a confrontation with several other men who apparently were burglarizing a marijuana collective in Sun Valley.

Ancheta, who was shot in the chest, was taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, where he died after undergoing surgery, according to police.

"He was a really nice guy," a woman who said she was the victim's cousin said at the scene. "He was always there for us."

CBS2 reported that Ancheta had a 6-year-old daughter.

LAPD Lt. Andrew Neiman said the shooting occurred at a marijuana collective in a commercial building. The victim and another man who were apparently connected with the marijuana collective went there armed with baseball bats in response to a burglar alarm call, Neiman said.

Once there, they found five or six males apparently in the process of burglarizing the facility, Neiman said.

During the confrontation, one of the victims was shot, Neiman said. He could not confirm a broadcast report that police were investigating whether a person treated for unspecified injuries at an area hospital was connected with the case.

Anyone with more information was urged to call (877) LAPD-247.
