Motorcyclist Struck, Killed in Valley Glen by Motorist Making U-Turn, Police Say

The accident occurs at Coldwater Canyon Avenue and Oxnard Street around 6 p.m. Friday.

A 40-year-old motorcyclist in Valley Glen was killed when he was struck by a motorist making a wide U-turn, police said today.

John Pedone, a Granada Hills resident, was killed by the crash at about 6 p.m. Friday at Coldwater Canyon Avenue and Oxnard Street, according to police reports.

The other driver, a 46-year-old Valley Village woman, apparently made a U-turn from the curb lane on northbound Coldwater Canyon. Her white Ford Expedition was struck from behind by the motorcyclist, who was also going north, according to police.

Paramedics rushed the motorcyclist to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The motorist remained at the scene of the crash. She was not immediately cited or arrested, and the case remains under investigation, an officer at the Los Angeles Police Department's Valley Traffic Bureau said.

Detectives asked anyone who saw the crash to call them at (818) 644-8028.
