NoHo Man Pleads Not Guilty in Subway Stabbing

The January attack on the Red Line was reportedly caught on videotape.

A North Hollywood resident pleaded not guilty today to fatally stabbing a man after a verbal dispute on a Metro Red Line subway train at a station beneath Vermont Avenue last month.

Angelo Correa, 24, is charged with murdering Jose Edgaro Velazco-Alvarado, 34, who was stabbed about 9:20 a.m. Jan. 13 aboard a Red Line train that had stopped at the Vermont/Santa Monica Boulevard station. He died at a hospital.

The attack was reportedly captured by a video camera inside the train.

Correa was arrested Jan. 17 at his North Hollywood home.

The criminal complaint alleges that Correa used a folding knife in the commission of the crime.

Correa was ordered to remain jailed in lieu of $1 million bail. He is due back in Los Angeles Superior Court March 10.
