North Hollywood Man Injured in Brush with Boat Propeller

A 28-year-old North Hollywood man suffered severe lacerations to an arm and his stomach from the propeller on his own boat this morning at Pyramid Lake.

Deputies from the sheriff's Parks Bureau Marine Patrol responded to a call about an injured boater at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, according to Johnie Jones of the Parks Bureau headquarters.

At Pyramid Lake the deputies learned that five men were boating when a problem arose with the boat's propeller, according to Jones.

The owner of the boat then got into the water to check out the propeller. He found there was a fishing line tangled around the propeller. As he tried to free the propeller, the began drifting toward the rocks. One of the men who was still in the boat started the engine and shifted it into reverse, according to Jones.

The whirling propeller struck the North Hollywood man severely cutting his left arm and his abdomen. The unidentified man was airlifted to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries, according to Jones.
