Pedestrian Struck and Killed by Bus in North Hollywood

A man who apparently tried to retrieve his pet after the dog ran after a ball and onto a North Hollywood street was struck and killed Wednesday by a Metro bus, as was the canine.

Paramedics were sent to the 8100 block of Webb Avenue about 10:45 a.m., according to Katherine Main of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Metro spokesman Luis Inzunza said the fatally injured man had chased after the dog after it ran into the street, and both were hit by the southbound bus, number 94, which was carrying three passengers. No one was hurt on the bus, Inzuna said.

The driver tried to swerve from the number one lane to the number two lane, but was unable to avoid hitting the man and dog, Inzunza said.

A witness told KCAL9 that the victim had thrown a ball to play fetch with his dog, but the ball bounced into the street.
