Man Shot in Calf by Suspected Gang Members, Police Say

The 50-year-old male victim was attempting to photograph an act of vandalism in progress, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

A 50-year-old man who tried using his cellphone to photograph two suspected gang members tagging on a wall at Hatteras Street and Tujunga Avenue Tuesday was shot in the calf, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The victim was riding on a bicycle when he noticed two men tagging a wall around 8:50 p.m., said Sgt. Mike Kammert.

When he attemped to take a picture of the act of vandalism, one of the men pulled out a 9mm handgun and shot the victim as he tried to escape, Kammert said.

The victim was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical center and is in stable condition, he said.

The suspects, who fled the scene on foot, are in their 20s, Kammert said.
