Authorities today released the names of a man who was fatally shot in North Hollywood and his alleged killer, who's accused of opening fire after the victim rammed the van in which the gunman was living.
The shooting occurred about 6 a.m. Thursday in the 7300 block of Fulton Avenue, said Los Angeles Police Department Officer Rosario Herrera.
Abraham Saldinas, 38, of North Hollywood, died at the scene, and Richard Fields, 62, was booked on suspicion of murder, according to the coroner's office and LAPD Detective Richard Wheeler of the North Hollywood Station.
Fields called 911 to report the shooting and was then taken into custody for questioning and eventually booked, police said.
"It appears from (the) initial investigation that ... our victim was backing his vehicle into our suspect's vehicle," LAPD Lt. Mike Rimkunas said. "Our suspect exits his vehicle, and fires at our victim, and ends up killing him."
Fields lived in his van, Wheeler said.
Detectives plan to present the case to the District Attorney's office on Monday for the possible filing of charges, Wheeler said.
