SUV Crashes Into North Hollywood Strip Mall

The accident on the 12050 block of Vanowen Street is reported at 5:23 p.m.

A sport utility vehicle plowed into several stores inside a North Hollywood strip mall today but there were no reported injuries.

The crash inside the strip mall on the 12050 block of Vanowen Street, near Laurel Canyon Boulevard, was reported at 5:23 p.m., Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

The crash involved only the sport utility vehicle and Scott said 12 firefighters were dispatched to the scene, but no one had been taken to a hospital as of 6:15 p.m.

"No one was injured as far as I can see, but firefighters and paramedics are still here," a clerk at the 7-Eleven store inside the strip mall told the City News Service by phone.

Photos and video submitted to North Hollywood-Toluca Lake Patch's Neighborhood Gallery by reader show the SUV having crashed almost fully through the front window/wall of and partially though the wall that seperates it from King Express.

"A woman in a silver SUV apparently thought she was in reverse. When she accelerated and went into the Video Citi store in the shopping center located on Laurel Canyon and Vanowen," wrote . "She had accelerated so fast that she went through the wall into the donut shop next door. I spoke to some teenagers who were eating in the donut shop and they said she just came through the wall."

Oh, man, somebody should have told her that the donut shop wasn't a drive-through! ;)

Why cover it? A couple reasons. Many people who live in the area might have seen or heard the police cars and sirens, as well as at least one TV helicopter that was hovering over the scene for some time. People who live or work near there might be worried something terrible like a murder or robbery had occurred, so the story helps them understand exactly what happened. We also have some dramatic photos sent in by a reader that help tell us what happened. We also have two local, independent business owners that have suffered thousands of dollars in damage and loss of business. So even though no one was hurt, there's some important news angles for a hyper-local site like Patch. (CBS, NBC, and City News have also covered the crash.)

Well, Jlanes.... why did you "bother" clicking on it? Much less taking the time to comment and re-comment?! Obviously, you like everyone else loves a good photo of an SUV through a donut shop.

Common Jlanes, this is a local news site that features stories that residents like to read about and pitch in on. Sometimes there are stories that may not interest you, just like there are ones that I am not interested in but that doesn't mean that they are not worthy of being on the Patch. Doesn't every news paper have stories that appeal to some and not others?

Dear tbs, Deon Coles black box is the worst tv show ever. Though it is hosted by a black man, it'sRead More a show based on pointing fun and rude Racist jokes directed toward black people. If there was a white host it would be considered racist but because a black man was appointed to be host , you might have figured we wouldn't be offended but we are and I can't speak for all but I feel like resist jokes aren't ok regardless of who is telling them and I would like tbs to take down this show or atleast change the points in the show ! -signed, Kalil Stimpson

First of all, Bill, a funniest new comic in LA NOT being gay would be news. In addition, being aRead More comedian myself, I can tell you most gay comedians are not as bigoted as you suggest.
