Search for Missing UCLA Student Resumes Thursday

David John Goeser, 22, was last seen Sunday at his apartment near the UCLA campus. His car was found parked near a canyon in Pacific Palisades on Wednesday.

The search for a UCLA student whose car was found parked near a trailhead in Pacific Palisades has been called off for the night, but it will resume Thursday at 6:30 a.m., said Sgt. Jose Mireles of the Los Angeles Police Department.

David John Goeser's white Toyota Corolla was found in a parking lot near Los Liones Drive and Sunset Boulevard, hours after LAPD announced the 22-year-old student was missing, said Karen Rayner of the LAPD Media Relations Department. The parking lot is near a trailhead for Los Liones Canyon.

Goeser was last seen by his roommates Sunday morning in his Westwood apartment in the 1000 block of Roebling Avenue.

Helicopters circled the area Wednesday evening as officers from LAPD and the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department began to search for Goeser. Two "trail/cadaver" dogs were on the scene Wednesday night, Mireles said.

A vehicle will be stationed in the parking lot through the night, Mireles said.

According to City News Service, Goeser is under a doctor's care and requires medication. When family members went to Goeser's apartment to check on him, they found his cellphone, ID and credit cards. They had not heard from him for a week. Mark Goeser, David's father, told KTLA it is "very concerning" that his son left his belongings at his apartment. Mark Goeser also told KTLA his son has been out of touch in recent months and has suffered from depression.

A Facebook page entitled "Find David Goeser" was created Wednesday.

Goeser is 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs 160 pounds. He has brown hair, brown eyes and a fair complexion. Goeser is an honors student majoring in English.

Anyone with knowledge of his whereabouts is asked to call the Los Angeles Police Department's missing persons unit at (213) 996-1800.

An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated Goeser's height. The story has been updated to reflect his correct height.

Thank you for this update. I was wondering why I heard the helicopters last night and again this morning. Hoping/praying/wishing all turns out ok for this young man.
