Wild Police Chase Through Valley Ends With 2 Arrests

Police report first noticing the suspect driving erratically on the Golden State (5) Freeway around 4:40 p.m. on Friday.

A reckless driving suspect in a stolen sport utility vehicle led police on a chase Friday through the Arleta area in Los Angeles, coming to a stop in San Fernando.

Police first noticed the suspect driving erratically on the Golden State (5) Freeway around 4:40 p.m., said Officer Cleon Joseph of the Los Angeles Police Department. ABC7 reported that the chase began in North Hollywood, but the 5 Freeway is in fact just north of North Hollywood. See the attached video of the chase from ABC7.

"The officers tried to conduct a stop, and when the suspect failed to stop, a pursuit ensued," Joseph said. "An initial collision was reported at Branford Street and Arleta Avenue."

The chase continued, with the suspect traveling on the wrong side of the road during parts of the pursuit, ABC7 reported.

The driver brought the SUV to a stop in the area of Brand Boulevard and Kewen Avenue in San Fernando, Joseph said.

The driver and a passenger, identified only as males -- possibly adults, got out of the vehicles and were taken into custody.

"They were both treated at a hospital for injuries," Joseph said, adding that it was unknown how the two suspects got hurt. "The vehicle ended up being stolen."
