Worker Found Dead at Excavation Site ID'd as Sun Valley Man

By City News Service

The Coroner's Office today named the worker who was killed while working in an excavation site in the Rancho Park area of Los Angeles, but no cause of death was established yet.

He was identified as Joel Sanchez, 35, of Sun Valley, said Coroner's Lt. Cheryl MacWillie.

Firefighters were sent to the 2000 block of Malcolm Avenue about 9:30 a.m Friday and found Sanchez unconscious in a hole about 20 feet deep, eight feet long and two feet wide, said Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sanchez could have suffered an electrical shock, Scott said, but the cause of death remained pending an autopsy.
