Krekorian Helps Kick Off Expanded Hours at North Hollywood Library

Sunday hours are restored after they were cut several years ago amid budget cuts.

The North Hollywood Amelia M. Earhart Regional Branch Library opened on Sunday for the first time in four years this past weekend.

LA City Councilman Paul Krekorian stopped by to help kick off the new hours, which were expanded so the library could operate seven days a week, and got things started by reading to a group of kids and their parents.

The local branch was among a handful of other libraries that resumed Sunday hours thanks to Measure L, a voter approved ballot item that passed in 2011 with a 63 percent margin to reverse a $22 million budget cut enacted by former Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

"I know other regional libraries that are open on Sundays, it's a very busy time, a lot of people come," said Senior Library Jeanne Rankin.

The NoHo library is located at 5211 Tujunga Ave.
