NoHo's Mary Garcia Recognized for Decades of Volunteering

The local neighborhood council president is honored during Latino Heritage Month.

Mid-Town NoHo Neighborhood Council President Mary Garcia was recognized last week by LA City Councilman Paul Krekorian at city hall for her years of volunteerism in her neighborhood, including her participation in the creation of the NoHo Arts District.

"Mary Garcia has played a vital role in transforming that neighborhood of North Hollywood from one that was kind of getting tired, kind of getting run down in some respect, to a place now of energy and vibrancy and contribution to the cultural life of our city," Krekorian said. "None of that would have happened without the engagement and organization of Mary Garcia."

Her recognition comes during Latino Heritage Month, where longtime community advocates are being singled out.

In addition to her tenure on the neighborhood council, Garcia serves on the executive board of the Valley Community Clinic as well as the arts council and scholarship committee of LA Valley College.

She once said one of her proudest achievements was helping to create the Whitnall Highway Dog Park.
