Should a Valley Post Office Be Renamed after Marilyn Monroe?

Rep. Tony Cardenas, D-Arleta, proposed today naming the Van Nuys post office for Marilyn Monroe, who attended high school nearby in the 1940s.

"It will be particularly inspirational for the students of Van Nuys High School, who will have a constant reminder of the heights they can reach if they apply themselves," Cardenas said. "Marilyn Monroe defied the odds, rising from humble beginnings in Southern California to become a star."

The legendary screen icon once recalled her high school days, when she lived with her aunt in the valley, as being among her happiest and most stable.
