Trade Group Sues City Over Medical Marijuana Dispensary Ban

Pot dispensary supporters are trying to halt city efforts to shut down more than 1,000 medical marijuana dispensaries.

A medical marijuana trade group filed a lawsuit against the city of Los Angeles Friday for its attempt to enforce an ordinance aimed at shutting down pot dispensaries, NBC reports.

The Patient Care Alliance, Los Angeles is seeking an injunction against the ordinance adopted by the City Council last month to halt the influx of dispensaries, which now total more than 1,000 in the city.

About 96 pot shops are housed in North Hollywod, said Deputy City Attorney Tamar Galatzan.

"The City Council's actions are not only reckless, heartless and pointless, they're just plain stupid," Marc O'Hara of PCA-LA told NBC. "The city knows that it will never be able to successfully defend this lawsuit."

This week, city hall mailed letters to 1,046 suspected dispensary locations and to 728 landlords, warning they could face fines or even jail time for staying in business past Sept. 6.

While the ordinance was authored to shut down dispensary storefronts, it allows primary caregivers and patients to grow and transport their own marijuana.

I don't have high hopes (pun not intended, but noted) but I wish them luck.

I read through The Patient Care Alliance, Los Angeles and the MMJ Trade Association website.
The PCA_LA website states they are a MMJ Trade Association. Both websites focus on the monetary financial aspect of Medical marijuana and not patient quality of life or access their to Medical Marijuana. My conclusion is I do not view their law suit as a noble cause of enriching patients and the citizens of Los Angeles quality or life.

I don't understand why the city cant just have a law saying hey, you can only have so many dispensaries in every community or they have to be so many miles apart. Cut the dispensaries in half or something. Unless the law truly limits the power of the City Council of regulating pot shops, then this is truly nothing more than political corruption; simply doing what the people with special interest want. I do agree that we have way to many of them, but as someone who grew up in South LA, let me tell you that the black market is very very happy. Everyone in my community put street sellers out of business because they just went to the pot shop for better quality and it was legal. Yeah I know that they don't have any real medical problems and I admit that I have gotten a Medical Card too, but its better than the dangerous streets and much safer for everyone. People shouldn't try to run everyone lives. People will get pot anyway possible and you want stop it. The war on drugs, at least pot, has been lost a long time ago and it will never be won. Some European countries have embraced the facts and are now enjoying millions and billions in revenue. The drug cartels have already spilled across the border because our government doesn't want to secure it and We The People have to pay the price.

Dear tbs, Deon Coles black box is the worst tv show ever. Though it is hosted by a black man, it'sRead More a show based on pointing fun and rude Racist jokes directed toward black people. If there was a white host it would be considered racist but because a black man was appointed to be host , you might have figured we wouldn't be offended but we are and I can't speak for all but I feel like resist jokes aren't ok regardless of who is telling them and I would like tbs to take down this show or atleast change the points in the show ! -signed, Kalil Stimpson

First of all, Bill, a funniest new comic in LA NOT being gay would be news. In addition, being aRead More comedian myself, I can tell you most gay comedians are not as bigoted as you suggest.
