Tujunga and Cohasset Intersection Gets a Traffic Light

The intersection has seen several pedestrians struck by vehicles in recent years, including one fataity.

For the second time in November, the North Hollywood North East Council District switched on a new traffic light in the name of improving pedestrian safety.

A few weeks ago, the Lankershim Boulevard and Valerio Street got some new lights, and on Tuesday, LA City Councilman Paul Krekorian hit the switch to activate new stop lights at Tujunga Avenue and Cohasset Street.

"We're very pleased that we're finally able to increase pedestrian safety for the students in and around Camellia Elementary School and for the other residents of the neighborhood," he said.

The intersection was previously equipped with stop signs in all directions and saw four pedestrian struck by cars overall, including one fatality. The effort to install traffic lights began in 2010 and cost about $267 in mostly federal money.

Ernie Moscoso, president of the North Hollywood North East Neighborhood Council, said he was thankful that city hall came through with the project.

"We're happy to have it, it's going to be a good thing for us," he said. "It slows the traffic down, which is important."
