Yaroslavsky Opposes NBCUniversal's Housing Plan

Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky voiced his opposition to a part of NBCUniversal's $3-billion "Evolution Plan," saying he opposes the idea of building 3,000 housing units on part of its back lot at Universal Studios, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Many individuals and groups have voiced their opposition to the new housing over concerns it will add to congestion in the Cahuenga Pass, but Yaroslavsky, who represents the Universal Studios area, said he is opposed for economic reasons, according to the Times.

"The proposed specific plan would place nearly 6,500 residents only a few feet away from the studio and theme park," Yaroslavsky said, according to the Times. "Such a development will most certainly create additional pressure on the studio to constrain and/or curtail some of its current production activity, threatening to shrink the studio and its related uses to a fraction of their current size."

The city released a draft environmental impact report on the project in 2010, and the final report is expected this year.
