Cold Stone and Green Apple Host Colfax Charter Elementary Freeway Series

Double your pleasure, double your fun at today's double restaurant fundraiser

Have you ever heard of the “Freeway Series?” It’s when the L.A. Dodgers take on the L.A. Angels of Anaheim, and fans travel back and forth along the 5 Freeway to watch them play.

Colfax Charter Elementary School in Valley Village is having their own Freeway Series, but instead of traveling along the 5, they just have to walk a couple of steps. The series is the first-ever double restaurant fundraiser today at Cold Stone Creamery and Green Apple China Bistro. Both restaurants are located at 12265 Ventura Boulevard (at Lauregrove Avenue), which is the host of Charlie’s Pantry, Jamba Juice, and California Pizza Kitchen, the latter which is the sponsor of many Colfax Day fundraisers.

Cold Stone will give 20 percent and Green Apple will give 25 percent of all sales back to the school, which scored an impressive . Fundraisers like these enable PACE (Parents Association Colfax Elementary - Colfax’s parent group) to pay for classroom aides, as well as extracurricular activities, office staff and the librarian whose positions have been slashed by LAUSD budget cuts.

Last February Cold Stone manager Rithy Lu wrote a check for $320 for Colfax’s first fundraiser there, which was a tremendous success. There was a continuous stream of customers throughout the afternoon and early evening, and Colfax is hoping to repeat that achievement today. This is Green Apple’s first fundraiser with Colfax, although they’ve had similar fundraisers for nearby Carpenter Community Charter School.

From 3 p.m.to 4:30 p.m., the teachers will be scooping and blending ice cream, so their students can give them their orders for a change. Colfax hopes that parents will then order healthy Chinese food for an early dinner from Green Apple, come back a little later, or order dinner to be delivered. They just need to bring a flyer when they pay for their order. Whether or not a patron is a Colfax family, they are welcome to download the attached flyers here or from Colfax’s Web site.
