Harvard-Westlake's State Champ Defends Track Title Friday

Cami Chapus will race the 1,600 on Friday.

A week after one Harvard-Westlake track star made history with her running ability, another will be defending her title as state champion in the 1,600 on Friday.

The all-stars from the Studio City private school are among the most-watched runners at the CIF State Championship races starting Friday.

Last week, Harvard-Westlake senior Amy Weissenbach became the first girl to win the 800 at the Masters three times in a row. This weekend, she could potentially make more history by breaking her own national record of 2:02.04, which she set at last year's state meet, according to the Los Angeles Times.

On Friday, defending state champion Cami Chapus plans to compete against Aptos junior Nikki Hiltz. This will mark a rematch of last year, when Hiltz finished in third.
