Campbell Hall Wins Key Baseball Game Over Rival

The Vikings shut out Montclair Prep 7–0 on Thursday, two days after being shutout 10–0 by the Mounties.

Two days after being shut out by Montclair Prep in a key Alpha League baseball game, Campbell Hall came back by defeating Montclair Prep 7–0 on Thursday in the second half of a two-game series that lifted Campbell Hall (10–2, 4–1) into a tie for first place with Paraclete (15–3, 4–1).

“It was a good game. I  was happy for our team,” Campbell Hall coach Juan Velazquez said. “Obviously, we gave a better show that we did on Tuesday, which was good for us. We needed to bounce back after a tough loss.”

Campbell Hall’s Jack Bensinger carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning, settling for a complete-game two-hitter with four strikeouts.

“Jack did a great job,” Velazquez said. “He has four pitches, and he was throwing all of them for strikes and keeping the hitters off-balance.”

Campbell Hall broke open a close game by totaling five runs over the final two innings.

The Vikings are in the midst of a 12-day spring break, resuming April 26 at Crossroads in Santa Monica.

GIOLITO MAKES HIS PITCH FOR HARVARD-WESTLAKE

Harvard-Westlake is on the verge of one of its best baseball seasons in years, as the Wolverines (13–5) have won five of six heading into a Mission League game today at 3:45 p.m. against St. Francis at Brookside Park in Pasadena.

Harvard-Westlake defeated St. Francis 10-0 on Tuesday, but the Wolverines should not take the Golden Knights lightly, as St. Francis has come through with several upsets wins, including wins victories over Chaminade, Crespi and Camarillo.

Among Harvard-Westlake’s key performers is Lucas Giolito, a 6-foot-6 right-handed pitcher who throws 94 mph. Giolito already has committed to UCLA.

"He's improved, and he's more competitive," Harvard-Westlake coach Matt Lacour said.,

NORTH HOLLYWOOD BASEBALL ON UPSWING

North Hollywood’s baseball team has won two in a row to move into a tie for third in the East Valley League–not bad considering the Huskies got off to a 2–6 start.

A  16-day spring break could be just what East Valley’s baseball team needs, as the Falcons (1–3) have lost three in a row.

Harvard-Westlake’s lacrosse team continues to succeed, as the Wolverines are 9–0 heading into a match at 11 a.m. Saturday against Crespi. Harvard-Westlake plays Crespi again on Tuesday at Harvard-Westlake.

KEEPING TABS

Former Harvard-Westlake baseball standout Austin Wilson, a freshman center fielder at Stanford, has started all 25 games for the The Cardinal, and he is batting .309 with two home runs and 15 RBIs while playing errorless defense.
