Los Angeles police Chief Charlie Beck played what pastrami sandwich connoisseurs may consider to be dirty pool today, and demanded that his counterpart in New York pay off their hockey bet in a very L.A. manner.

Beck and New York Police Commissioner William J. Bratton had placed public bets with each other on the Kings-Rangers battle for the NHL Stanley Cup. Beck and Bratton are old chums from Bratton's 10 years as LAPD chief.

This morning, Bratton tweeted a photo of a rather dingy-looking cafe in an apparently rundown section of Gotham, and asked Beck if he wanted his mustard on the side or what?

Beck tweeted back with a mouthwatering photo of the number 19 pastrami sandwich, laden with coleslaw from Langer's Deli, in the Westlake District of Los Angeles.

The sanwich and restaurant are an LAPD favorite. Bratton was known to favor it during his tenure here

No less an authority than The New York Times once proclaimed the Langer's pastrami sandwich to be the finest pastrami sandwich in the entire nation, including New York.

After all the hashtags, Beck's tweet today instructed "CommissBratton, hold the mustard pls, slaw inside, like Langer's Deli number 19."

That would be "sandwich"... not "sanwich".

That "rather dingy-looking cafe in an apparently rundown section of Gotham," is the legendary Katz's Deli on New York's Lower East Side. It is world renown for its traditional Jewish deli cuisine. Whoever writes your stories should do some research before labeling something wrongly as a dump!
