Week Ahead: Valley Film Fest Returns, Mid-Town Council to Talk Alcohol Licenses and More

Tuesday 

It's open mic night for aspiring and amateur comedians at The Other Door bar from 7-11 p.m. 10437 Burbank Blvd.

Jazz group the Silver Lake Trio will play their free weekly show starting at 8 p.m. at Bob's Espresso Bar. 5251 Lankershim Blvd.

NoHo resident and pianist Randy Emata will be performing in the back lounge of the Federal Bar. He specializes in playing the smoother groovier side of jazz/R&B/pop along with Michael Reason on drums and William Matthew Taylor on bass. Show is free and starts at 8 p.m. 5303 Lankershim Blvd.

Wednesday

The annual Valley Film Festival kicks off at the Laemmle NoHo 7 with dozens of films spanning several genres, including selections that were filmed in the San Fernando Valley. The event runs daily through Sunday and general admission for each evening is $12. Click here for more info and the film schedule.

The Mid-Town NoHo Neighborhood Council board of directors meets at 7 p.m. at the North Hollywood Park Senior Center. Agenda items include a new gastropub called District Pub at 5249 Lankershim Boulevard seeking a conditional use permit to serve beer and wine. The board will also discuss a similar issue regarding Fat Dog, which is replacing the Avery Schreiber Theatre on Magnolia, and its request for a full liquor license. Thursday

Seniors are invited to a mind, body and soul workout class for seniors at At One Fitness. Free introductory course with workouts like balance and core exercises. Class starts at 10:30 a.m. Instructors are Jack Witt and Robin Hart. 11116 Weddington St. Click here for more info.

Take a trip back in time with live DJs spinning classic hip hop and R&B tunes at the Federal Bar for Snapback Thrusdays. No cover. $5 well drinks and $2 PBR's.
