Epic Play Reading Mines WWI

Mary Anneeta Mann is at it again.
This past April she celebrated her life’s work with personal commentary, narration and scenes from some of her many books and plays staged at T.U. Studios.
This past Friday at the same location at T.U. Studios, she and Justine Visone directed a staged reading of the first nine scenes of “Anzac,” Mann’s epic WWI play on war and peace. Kurt Sinclair narrated.
The cast of 12 includes many who either live or work or do both in North Hollywood.
They are: Ann Berry, Jennifer Clarke, Alan Gordon, Rocky Lane, Radomir Vojtech Luza, Vic Miyahira, Patricia Murphy, David Laird Scott, Kate Springthorpe, Michael Springthorpe, Justine Visone and Seth Young.
Anzac, which stands for “Australian New Zealand Army Corps” holds a special place in Mann’s heart.
“We haven’t had a production (of  “Anzac”) since the 1990's,” Mann says. “The play is something that I always felt as if I had to do in order to carry-out the tradition of Anzac in the way it really happened and to show how wars affect families for generations.”
Mann’s father is the backbone of the play.
“My father,” Mann points-out, “is the most important part of the play.  He is the reason why it was written.  It was written because of his spirit which goes on beyond his life and this earth.”
Mann is well aware that the 100th anniversary of the Anzac landing on Gallipoli, when the word Anzac was coined, is in 2015.      The longtime North Hollywood resident, Mid Town North Hollywood Neighborhood Council Board member and arts activist has her sights firmly set on her goals.          “(I want to) get the play moving again and hope to find the funding to make a television mini-series out of the play to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Anzac landing,” Mann emphasizes.
With her track record being what it is who among us would doubt her.
