Ask Paul ... Questions for Councilman Krekorian

Ask Paul: What About My Sidewalks?

As a reminder, please keep in mind that we receive many questions and are doing our best to answer each one with the diligence you deserve. But please remember that if you have an issue which requires immediate attention, you are always welcome to call my

Dear Councilman: Why is it that the city doesn't seem to have funding for essential projects like sidewalks, but always seems to be able to fund favorite projects like the football stadium, hotel subsidies, etc., etc.?? When they were available, why weren't redevelopment funds used for sidewalks and other infrastructure needs? Thank you. Ernest Scarcelli Dear Ernest, Thanks for the question. Let me first say that I agree completely with your premise that the city needs to be investing in our infrastructure right now.  The city’s sidewalks, as well as street surfaces, the water system, sewers, the power grid, and many public buildings are aging and in dire need of repair and upgrading in order to meet the needs of our population.  At the …

Let me begin by saying that Councilman Krekorian is one of the best on the City Council. Regarding whether or not public funds have been proposed to be used for the building of the Farmers Field football stadium, I'd like to make two points. First, the city has proposed to sell bonds to pay for the building of new section of the Convention Center that must be done to make room for the stadium. …   more ›

Thanks for your continued questions -- we’re working hard to get to as many as we can as quickly as we can in the space we're allotted. I appreciate your continued active engagement in the issues that affect our great city!  Paul, how do you feel about the redistricting plans for now, first draft? I'm sickened by the new plans and would like to keep you as a Councilman in Sherman Oaks. Can You help Sherman Oaks stay in your district? Do you want to have Sherman Oaks in your district? --Scott Killeen Dear Scott,  As you know, the 21-member Redistricting Commission, charged with drawing new voting boundaries for the all of the city's 15 council districts, submitted its first draft of proposed maps for public consideration last month.  The …

See the attached video to hear Los Angeles City Councilman Paul Krekorian explain the new Ask Paul column. Every two weeks, you'll have the opportunity to ask Krekorian about issues directly affecting your neighborhood. Email AskPaul@lacity.org today! Hi Paul, I think one of our most pressing issues in Studio City is preserving that massive Green Space that we know of as Weddington Golf Course and turn it into a public park. I know the SCRA is on top of it and all and I know you talked about that there isn’t any money for it, but are there still any plans to develop it and if so is there a way to keep people from doing it? I’d tie myself to one of the trees if that helps! Also, is the Weddington family still involved with that property? …

PHOTOS: North Hollywood and East Valley High Soccer Teams Kick Off Season With Friendly Scrimmage

North Hollywood High School Varsity Soccer has more history and experience going into the new soccer season, as they leave East Valley High School scoreless on their turf.

On Wednesday night, East Valley High School hosted a scrimmage soccer game against North Hollywood High School on their sports field, which is situated alongside Vineland Avenue near Chandler Boulevard. North Hollywood High's varsity soccer team demonstrated their strength and depth in the friendly pre-season exhibition game, scoring five unanswered goals and clearly dominating the match. The majority of the spectators were East Valley students, and although the "cross-town rivals" surely defeated their Falcons in the exhibition match, feelings remained friendly between the two schools. VIDEO: Krekorian's L.A. Student Media Fest Looking for Next Spielberg

Are you the next Steven Spielberg? Or the next Peter Jackson? Then start your project today, so you can submit it by the Jan. 20, 2012 deadline!

Los Angeles City Councilman Paul Krekorian today urged high school students across the county to submit films for the second annual Los Angeles Student Media Festival by Jan. 20. The festival debuted early this year with about 100 submissions, but was limited to students who live in the city. This year it was expanded to include the entire county. Krekorian said the festival "showcased an immense amount of talent -- movies that made us laugh, cry and consider a different cinematic vantage point.'' He said the festival is a chance for young filmmakers to grow as artists and "will no doubt play a role in the start of many promising careers.'' The festival will take place in March at the El Portal Theatre in the NoHo Arts District. Films must…

VIDEO: Councilman Krekorian Helps Fix Your Neighborhood Streets

The L.A. City Council District 2 representative takes action and helps a Bureau of Street Services crew slurry seal a Valley Glen road.

L.A. City Councilman Paul Krekorian donned the safety garb of the Bureau of Street Services Slurry Division on Thursday morning and got his hands dirty helping the city crew maintain the asphalt roadways of Council District 2. As Krekorian states in the video, by maintaining a regular slurry sealing schedule for L.A. city's streets, this preventive measure will extend the life of our neighborhood roadways. And in the process, this will save money for L.A. taxpayers in the long run.

Man Injured In Possible Hit-and-Run in NoHo

A man was found lying in the street near the intersection of Cahuenga Boulevard and Chandler Boulevard in North Hollywood.

On Sunday night, at approximately 11:20 p.m., an elderly man was crossing Cahuenga Boulevard at the northbound side of Chandler Boulevard, when he was hit by a vehicle in an alleged hit-and-run incident. North Hollywood Division LAPD patrol units were dispatched to the intersection and Engine 60 and Rescue Ambulance 60 from the Los Angeles Fire Department Station on Tujunga Avenue, arrived soon after. A Toyota Camry was stopped in the middle of Cahuenga, and the occupants appeared to be possible passsersby that saw the injured man lying in the street, called 911 and stayed with the man until help arrived. After speaking with the police, the Toyota drove away. An LAPD officer at the scene said it wasn't very clear from the visible details …
