Females may be fearful or ashamed to come forward and report his alleged acts of domestic violence and torture, police say.
A press conference was held Monday where detectives at the Los Angeles Police Department's North Hollywood Division announced that they are seeking possible additional victims of a North Hollywood personal trainer suspected of attempted murder and kidnapping charges. LAPD Lieutenant Alan Hamilton and LAPD Detective Brandy Azarte, both of the North Hollywood Division, answered questions from the media regarding these crimes, and other possible domestic violence crimes they believe Dejon Alan Miller, 35, may have committed in the past. Hamilton said Miller is currently in police custody for the assault with a deadly weapon and kidnapping charges he allegedly committed on Dec. 17, 2011. Miller is associated with several websites that are …

One fatality and two seriously injured patients backup the eastbound Ventura Freeway, the California Highway Patrol reports.
One person was killed and two others were injured today in a two-vehicle crash on the eastbound Ventura (101) Freeway in the Studio City area, the California Highway Patrol reported. The crash near Coldwater Canyon Avenue was reported at 3:44 a.m. and prompted the closure of all lanes of the eastbound side of the freeway, said CHP Officer Patrick Kimball. Two lanes were reopened shortly before 5 a.m., he said. CHP Sergeant Abramian told Patch that as CHP officers were investigating the accident, "It looks like these were two individual accidents. The white vehicle (the Toyota Matrix) lost control and stabilized; then the Honda collided with it." Los Angeles Fire Department rescuers freed a man and a woman from a Toyota Matrix and took them…

8 p.m. on March 2 at the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, 5220 Lankershim Blvd. Hands for Hope will present their 12th annual jazz music concert fundraiser to support their afterschool kids and single parent programs.
Every year since they first opened, Hands for Hope, a non-profit organization that provides a free afterschool program and support for single-parents, has put together an entertaining fundraiser that mixes a great jazz music concert with a talent showcase of their very own students. This year will be the 12th Annual Starlight Jazz Serenade Concert, coinciding with Hands for Hope's 12th year of operation. Lydia Floyd, the executive director and founder, says she was personally inspired to start this program because she saw the need to help single-parents get supervised care for their children while they were busy at work. Hands for Hope provides truly creative and worthwhile activities for children as young as 8 years old, like cooking, …

New hours are Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., more parking and free parking in designated areas; more certified organic vendors; and more improvements in the near future.
From the looks of Saturday's attendance at the NoHo Farmers Market, things have been picking up over the weeks, and the subtle changes and improvements are being noticed and appreciated by the customers and the vendors. For one, the market's hours were originally 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., but that didn't seem to mesh well with the typical weekend customers who probably wanted to sleep in a little bit, so the hours were altered to better suit them: the market now opens at 10 a.m., and runs until 3 p.m. And unlike other farmer's markets around Los Angeles and nearby, the NoHo Farmer's Market is operating during the winter season, giving the rather new operation some much needed visibility to those who may not know about it. The whole layout of the …

This peaceful place, here in Valley Glen, is a 'model for revitalization efforts all along the L.A. River.'
In an area that was once only a concrete-encased flood channel, The Tujunga Wash Greenway and Stream Restoration Project has revitalized the space, and now provides a tranquil environment for Valley residents in need of peace, beauty and relaxation. "The barren concrete channel has been transformed. Native plants and trees are thriving. Water that once flowed into a flood control channel has now been diverted into a meandering stream that feeds an aquifer and supplies drinking water. Walking paths and bike trails line the restored wash between Vanowen and Oxnard streets in the Valley. This $7-million project—a blend of conservation and recreation—is a model for revitalization efforts all along the L.A. River." (from County Supervisor,Third…

Firefighters see 'heavy smoke' when they arrive; find flames in the grease filter/vent area of the family-owned eatery.
A fire broke out around 10:40 p.m. Tuesday night at the H Salt Fish & Chips restaurant located at 4795 Vineland Ave. in North Hollywood, where Lankershim Boulevard and Camarillo Street cross. LAFD firefighters from North Hollywood and Studio City responded quickly, and had the fire "knocked down" in approximately 15 minutes. Nobody was injured at the scene, said Shawn Lenske of the Los Angeles Fire Department. A friend of the family who was at the scene said the owner and another relative were working inside the restaurant after business hours. The friend, who did not give his name, said, "The fire broke out when they (the owner and family member) were inside, so they called 911... and the fire trucks were here in no time. Luckily, they're…

Flocks of birds can be seen gathering around North Hollywood. What are they up to?
Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds. I haven't seen that film in, literally, decades. But some scenes, and the forboding message from that movie, are indelibly fixed into my memory. I was reminded of that film as I was out testing some camera equipment around North Hollywood. It seemed everywhere I went, birds would appear. Fortunately I was testing some lenses, and taking pictures of the birds could help me with my tests. I'm not sure that the birds I saw were up to no good, but one can only wonder what to do if birds were to intelligently organize attacks on humans. I figure I might try to find a DVD of The Birds and watch it again. It's made way before computer-generated imagery (CGI), and watching it now may alter my original thoughts and …

Once again, I am shocked at the charges against Dejon. He was always very intense in his training and most of all 'his' beliefs. As to how his 'focus' got to this point I have no idea. He and I met when he was training at Power House in Burbank, Ca. He was always entertaining and fun to speak with, I was at one point going to use him as my personal trainer. However, the outdoor and boot camp …   more ›
