Between the months of September and May, I work a 50-60 hour week as a dialogue editor (sound, not writing). I cut the last four seasons of Brothers & Sisters, all seven seasons of The West Wing and the first four seasons of ER, which is the show that won me two Primetime Emmys and one Golden Reel (the Oscars of sound editing). In September I will start editing the dialogue for Once Upon a Time, which premieres at 8:00 pm Sunday, October 23 on ABC. I originally planned to become a journalist, and received my A.A. in journalism in 1982, but quickly realized that I was handicapped by my intense shyness and tremendous fear of people. Now, 30 years later, you can’t shut me up. I earned my B.A. and M.A. in Communication Arts from Loyola Marymount University, and have worked in post production sound my entire adult life. During the Writers’ strike three years ago, I sought the advice of a career coach to see if there might another career that I could be passionate about. I discovered that what I wanted most in life is to connect others to relevant, timely and accurate information. I returned to school in a distance education program and last August graduated with my Masters of Science in Library Science. Since then, I was elected to the boards of Neighborhood Council Valley Village and the School Site Council at Colfax Charter Elementary School where I have been an active volunteer for over a dozen years. I started contributing articles to North Hollywood/Toluca Lake and Studio City Patch in March 2011 and began my weekly blog in May of that year. I don’t have a nanny, cleaning lady or gardener, and figure I’ll take a little “me” time after I’m dead. My twitter username is "veryverybusy mom." "Verybusymom" was taken, and I figured that this one was more appropriate anyway.
