A Haunted Yard for a Cause Returns to Valley Villager's Home

Phyllis Solomon once again transforms her home for Halloween and hopes to raise money for head and neck cancer survivors.

While weeds and crabgrass are common yard issues homeowners deal with, Valley Village's Phyllis Solomon has a much bigger problem on her hand: her yard is haunted.

For the past five years, Solomon has transformed the outside of her home to "Laurelgrove Lair of Lost Souls" with the help of many spooky decorations.

“Come on by and see the Haunted Graveyard with very spooky sound effects, Bones Bistro with the Skeli Band, the Wizard of Oz themed Pumpkin Patch, the huge 15-foot spider up on the roof, many other old favorites, and many new additions for 2013!" She said.

Solomon also sets up a detailed and elaborate miniature Halloween village in her living room window. Neighbors have been stopping by in anticipation of the mini village being lit up and operating.

This year, Solomon said she's also hoping visitors would make a donation to HNC Support International, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that assists head and neck cancer survivors like herself.

But overall, she says she's looking forward to having guests.

"I love seeing everyone's reactions, especially the kids," Solomon said. "I enjoy being out there talking to neighbors and even making some new friends!"

You can find "Laurelgrove Lair of Lost Souls" at 4913 Laurelgrove Ave., Valley Village, CA 91607. The yard and mini village are lit up nightly from 6-10 p.m. through Nov 2.
