Decade of Laughs and Tears Ends as Avery Schreiber Announces Closure

After 10 years of staging a wide array of productions, the Avery Schreiber Theater in the NoHo Arts District will have its final curtain call on July 1.

In a letter posted on the theater's website, owner Linda Fulton writes that she was not forced to close the 50-seat venue.

"Please understand that this is a choice I have made and not something I was forced to do," she wrote. "The Schreiber is still a very successful and thriving theater. However I have made a very clear decision to do this for several very good reasons and though I am aware of how many people love the Schreiber as much as I do, and have long considered it they’re home and a landmark in North Hollywood, I still feel that the timing is right for me to take this action."

Fulton owns the site of the Avery Schrieber and plans to hang onto the deed. She said she has already signed a lease with gastropub Fat Dog to tear down the existing structure and build a new restaurant.

Fat Dog has locations in Montrose and Hollywood.

"I must admit that while I am conflicted (as I usually am with change), I am still looking forward to seeing the new restaurant they create" Fulton wrote. "Plus, the food is excellent! It is my greatest hope that you would consider trying Fat Dog and welcome them into the community as you did the Schreiber. I’m sure it will be a positive presence in NoHo. It would be an excellent place to eat before class or to go over your scripts, discuss your scenes or just grab a snack and have a beer.

Fulton said she will continue her involvement in the NoHo Arts District and run Total Improv Kids at the Sherry Theater, which is right next to the Avery Schreiber.
