Southern Food, North Hollywood Style

Short ribs and blackened catfish are some signature dishes of P. Gators Southern Grill, now open in the NoHo Arts District.

Southern comfort has finally arrived in the NoHo Arts District.

After a series of remodeling delays, P. Gators Southern Grill had a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday.

Located at 11049 W. Magnolia Blvd., the eatery offers an array of deep south dishes like Cajun short ribs, beef brisket, blackened catfish and collard greens.

Owner Paul Hiles, who runs the business with partner Joe Renteria, founded the P. Gators foundation five years ago to battle childhood obesity.

The new restaurant offers a healthier spin on soul food to keep in line with the organization's goal of better nutrition.

"The way we prepare our food is a little healthier than your traditional southern food," Hiles said. "Everything is fresh, not a lot of salt, a lot of herbs, a lot of organic ingredients."

P. Gators Southern Grill is open Mondays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
